The size is average. I ordered an extra large following other reviews but it was way too big. I had to send it back to order a medium. Medium fit me well (5’3” 150 lb.). The bonnet isn't sewn as a sun bonnet, it fits more like a pilgrim bonnet, like one of those little close-fitting bonnets from the 17th century, it can't block the sun since the brim is only 3 inches wide and the length goes from earlobe to earlobe instead of covering the face. But it's darling! I'm going to see about adding more to the brim so I can wear it for the sun.
